Market Haul: Protein

I had a full weekend. It was full of ups, downs, a myriad of emotions which were laced with tears, and a downright laughable outburst. Ladies understand what time it is. Although I was quite miserable, I got through it like a trooper. I had plans to attend an event Saturday evening but

Tamari Glazed Cracked Pepper Salmon With Mashed Turnip.

After taking some time away from what I love the most, I am so glad I am able to post some of my favorite recipes created in my absence.  During the summer it is very rare I turn on the main oven, however the broiler, and grill are used often. Fish is a staple for me, because it’s quick, and the sweet tender flesh leaves me satiated for hours. Tamari Glazed Cracked Pepper Salmon With Mashed Turnip 1 lb Salmon 1/2 cup Tamari Sauce 2 tbsp maple syrup 1 tbsp Grated ginger Cracked black pepper Reserve half sauce to pour over salmon while broiling. Remainder sauce, place in ziplock and marinate before broiling. Mashed Turnips. Boil 4 turnips until soft, Mash turnips, add 2 tbsp butter, milk, sea salt, and hint of coconut sugar. *Palm sugar optional.

6 Ingredient Fusilli Chicken & Spinach

I’m Not Cheap!…Ok, Maybe A Little. I usually shop at Whole Foods, or Trader Joe’s, but on this particular of day I was lured to the local Pathmark with visions of discounted meat dancing in my head. I will admit it was the bragging of a friend who had scored several cuts of meat from the supermarket at a good price, because they were labeled as “managers special”. Well after listening to him go on and on about his find, I decided to go the following day. I  spent way more than I intended to, but was satisfied with saving about  $25.00 total on the poultry I purchased. Another friend called me cheap, well maybe I am just a little, but somehow to me it just makes sense. My son wanted a burger, I wanted pasta and I …

Soul, Stand Still.

As I peeled and cut vegetables for my stew I couldn’t help but gaze out the kitchen window. It was the first day of summer and Summer solstice. I began to cook and write…. Solstice With the changing of seasons brings thoughts of endings and new beginnings. The line between the two have always been blurred for me, yet the stillness of thoughts and spirit forces hands open, freeing all that confines. I look forward to change, movement and growth as closed hearts cannot truly hear the rustling in the leaves, I too want to hear their whispers, add bass to their song.  I sit in grass, legs folded, fingers stroking blades back arched, head tilted up, awaiting the embrace. Communing with thoughts I say, “soul, be still”.  I am kissed by the sun, soft at first then penetrating intensely. With eyes shut, opening, I receive the gift.  Natures music begins, I hear her melody and my heart responds with deep resounding cries of love. I can remember distinctly the spicy curry chicken and rice my mother would …
